Observation before interpretation
What is visibly present
- Four figures appear in one scene with unequal spacing.
- Two figures share an object while the others are visually separate.
- Figure size and detail vary across the group.
Possible reflections
- The arrangement may be a starting point for the artist to discuss relationships they intended to show.
- It cannot establish real family roles, closeness, conflict, or attachment from the image alone.
Questions worth exploring
- What is happening in this family scene?
- How did you decide where each figure belongs?
- Whose perspective does the drawing follow?
Research and methodology
Evidence strength: limited and context-dependent
Limitations
- Much family-drawing research is child-focused.
- Scoring agreement is not the same as interpretive validity.
- The drawing cannot verify real relationship dynamics.
